Yes! Our milk farmers guarantee that all milk is rBST (recombinant bovine somatotropin) and antibiotic free. In fact our milk comes from an official A2 Jersey brown cow Heritage breed. It's just that much more premium, as nothing but the best goes into our craft.

What exactly are live and active cultures and probiotics?

Live and Active Cultures are living organisms, or "cultures," added to milk in order to make yogurt. The two cultures that the phrase "live and active cultures," refers to are Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus.

Often called "starter cultures" when they are added to milk, they convert the milk into yogurt during fermentation. This fermentation process is what creates yogurt, with its unique taste, texture and health benefits.

We proudly use Live and Active Cultures and never heat treat our yogurt after fermentation. This way our custom-blended cultures remain alive and viable throughout our products' shelf life.
Probiotics (often called "good bacteria") are living organisms found in certain foods and dietary supplements that help replenish and strengthen the bacteria naturally living in your body. These good bacteria are often under tremendous stress due to our busy lifestyles. Luckily Kalypso Greek looks to replenish these by adding Lactobacillus acidophilus. We are simply promoting a healthy Mediterranean lifestyle.

Where is the name Kalypso from?

Kalypso Yogurt was inspired by our founder Niko. When creating his own Odyssey during a never-ending island-hopping adventure on the Greek Islands, he was reminded of another Odyssey written by one of the most revered ancient Greek poets, Homer. Kalypso was a mystical character in a poem that portrayed a seductive nymph that detained Odysseus for several years from returning home to his family. Hence our tagline: Kalypso Yogurt “Seductively Delicious.”
